Milo Bags

Anju Gupta started Milo in 2009 in Kolkata, India, where her workshop now employs 113 artisans. Each bag starts as full-grain cowhide, which is cut, woven into strips and stitched by hand, then washed and dip-dyed in warm, earthy colours. The leather keeps its natural markings, so no two bags are quite the same, and it softens and deepens in colour the more you carry it. Milo pays fair wages, and a quarter of its workshop team are women, many of them single mothers.
